St. Martin de Porres Primary School
St. Martin de Porres Primary School educates nearly 700 students, from day care through Standard 6 (8th grade.) Most students come from our surrounding neighborhood, Belize City's South Side. It's one of the most violent neighborhoods in Belize, home to several street gangs and much poverty. In addition to street violence, our students suffer from the effects of violence and poverty in the home. Over 50 percent of our students suffer from PTSD, a result of ongoing exposure to this violence.
But St. Martin's School is a place of hope. Through a faith-based, Jesuit Catholic education, our first aim is to help our students heal, and to offer a loving and nurturing environment where learning becomes possible.
